The return of Supersalone, an epochal event
It was the first - and the largest - event to be canceled due to the pandemic. An epochal decision, made extremely rapidly and in progress, very close to the inauguration date. Perhaps for this reason, it was particularly impactful from both an economic and emotional standpoint. A truly weighty decision to make, but equally necessary. Now the Salone del Mobile returns in the form of Supersalone, in an unusual period of the year: it will take place from September 5th to 10th, 2021, inheriting from the period of forced closures the hybrid formula of in-person and online event. Platinum Custom Rugs is part of this innovative digital project; therefore, it will be present on the Salone's virtual platform.
There is a desire to design, with a strong commitment to "green", to create a new, felt alliance between humans and the environment. The numbers announced for Supersalone are: 423 brands and 50 independent designers, distributed across four pavilions of the exhibition center, 170 projects from 48 international design schools, 20 of the most influential personalities in the current creative landscape, 110 seating designs awarded the Compasso d'Oro, 6 top chefs, 5 film works, 200 trees from Forestami, setting up a real forest between the Porta Est entrance, exhibition areas, and living areas dedicated to relaxation, which will be transferred to the areas of the Metropolitan City of Milan after the event.
The curator is Stefano Boeri, supported by an international team of co-designers: Andrea Caputo, Maria Cristina Didero, Anniina Koivu, Lukas Wegwerth, Marco Ferrari, and Elisa Pasqual of Studio Folder, along with Giorgio DonĂ , co-founder and director of Stefano Boeri Interiors. The desire for recovery is tangible; companies have continued to create even in the last 18 months, and now there is great curiosity to discover the fruits of this creativity. The Milanese event will provide an overview of the sector, identifying trends and future perspectives. Naturally, the issue of safety remains central for everyone, and for this reason, the organization is working on multiple levels to ensure a protected environment, as is happening around the world, with measures we are accustomed to, from the green pass to distancing and masks.
Supersalone is already considered a symbol of the new Renaissance we are experiencing, in response to a desire for change that is felt pervading every aspect of people's lives. Design, always an interpreter of the times and a response to the transformations of contemporary social structure, can only be the meeting point of these forces. The relevance of the event, recognized as a driving force of the Italian economy, is underscored by the announcement of the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the inauguration.
It will be an unmissable event, and for this reason, a digital platform has been created to expand the possibilities of interaction among industry players, in a virtual version, and participation in the many events that will be offered via live streaming. The protagonists of the art and architecture scene, as well as young makers, established brands, and international schools, will come together, both in person and online, in this immense laboratory of experimentation and contamination that has always been the Salone.
